Take your sailing skills to the next level on a RYA Coastal Skipper Practical Course in Athens, Greece
The RYA Coastal Skipper course is for those with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation, who want to learn how to undertake more challenging coastal passages by day and night.
Emphasis is placed on developing higher levels of independence, watch-keeping routines, crew management and the ability to pilot a vessel both day and night.
Overall, the course aims at the development of a higher level of overall navigational and pilotage skill.
The passage planning process for coastal skippers begins to involve consideration of the requirements for offshore passages e.g. vessel equipment or the significance of meteorological trends.
This course is delivered in English.
Prerequisites
Sea Experience
15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles. Completed RYA Day Skipper Sail Practical course strongly recommended.
Theory
Theory knowledge to Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased level. Completed RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased course strongly recommended.

How long ?
The Seven Seas advantage : A seven-day sailing experience.
We go one step beyond the RYA minimun of five days and offer an extended course of seven full days, which gives participants more time to make the most out of this sailing experience.
Our courses start on Saturdays and finish on following Friday in the evening.

- Meteorology
- Passage planning and monitoring (advanced)
- Boat maintenance and engine knowledge
- Emergency situations (passive & active safety) and the use of VHF
- Boat handling under power and under sails in the harbour and at sea (advanced)
- Over 50nm passages and night passage
- Introduction to Radar and ARPA
Examination
There is no examination. Your instructor will be assessing your performance and monitoring your progress throughout the course.
He will provide guidance and ensure that everyone is aware of their strengths and weaknesses.
You at the end of the course
After succesfully completing the RYA Coastal Skipper course, you’ll be able skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night.
You’ll be familiar with the area of the Saronic Gulf and the Cyclades, a world-famous sailing destination, should you ever wish to come back – and this will most certainly be the case!
At your instructor's recommendation, who will assess your ability to skipper a sailing boat in offshore passages by day and night, you will be awarded a RYA Coastal Skipper Sail Certificate.
